We made it though our first week!

We made it though our first week of Second Grade! This week we learned about Doubles, Near Doubles, and Bridge to Ten in Math. In Science, we set up our journals, which we will refer to as "Science Explorations" all year. During Reader's Workshop, the class discussed ideas for what independent reading should look and sound like. We talked about how good readers need to always practice their reading. Writing was a lot of getting to know each other activities. The students wrote a story about their first week in Second Grade. We set up our Writer's Workshop Notebooks and talked about different things we can write about during the year. Many of the students are excited to write about their hobbies, summer vacations, and family traditions.
Everyone seems very eager and excited for everything we will learn in Second Grade!

Today we celebrated Mason's Birthday! Happy Birthday Mason!

Two of our students Asher and Kellen both lost a tooth this week.

Bakar, Teule, Ella, and Brianna show off their Science Safety tips in their Science Journals

Jenna S., Jenna F., Kize, Maeve, and Francisco are in their reading spots they have chosen to read at during independent reading.

Thanks for making it a great week in Second Grade! Have a relaxing and restful weekend. See you Tuesday!

First Day in Second Grade

Our first day in second grade was a success! The students arrived to school with a lot of enthusiasm and a healthy dose of anticipation . Below are some pictures that we took throughout the day.
Avery, Isabella, Breanna, and Persayis are working together on the activity called "Find a Friend Who..."

 Jonathan, Owen, Lucas, and Ty

Eli, Kellen, Mason, Ayaan, Jake, Tyler, and Asher

We even practiced reading independently today, and they did a great job sitting in their new reading spots that they picked out!

We had a busy first day in Second Grade and I can't wait for the days to come.
Parents make sure you are sending  a snack with your students, we don't eat lunch until 1pm so it is important that each student has a snack to eat after we return from specials.

Meet the Teacher

Thanks to everyone who made it to Meet the Teacher tonight. It was so nice to meet all of my new students and parents. I feel so lucky to have such a great group of kids. Tonight I learned we have a wide variety of interests in our class. Some of these include cars, horses, travel, Texas Longhorns, San Antonio Spurs, and many others.

Get a good night's sleep on Sunday and eat a healthy breakfast on Monday.
Have a great weekend! I'll see you Monday :)
